Jangaon: Central Crime Station (CCS) police, Warangal, and Jangaon police, in a joint operation, arrested three members of a gang involved in swapping of ATM cards and financial fraud cases at Nehru Centre here on Wednesday.
The arrested were identified as Kommaraju Veerasai Kiran of Devamcheruvu village of Rajanagaram mandal, Karakatam Saikiran of Annapurnampeta of Rajahmundry, and Illa Venkatasai Kiran of Mandapeta village of East Godavari district. One more accused Koppisetety Rajkumar of East Godavari district is absconding. The police seized Rs 1,60,046 cash, eight duplicate ATM (debit) cards, two cars, and one cell phone from their possession.
Speaking to the media here, Warangal police commissioner Tarun Joshi said: “The accused go to different ATM kiosks and swap ATM cards of gullible persons with duplicate cards that look similar under the pretext of helping them with their transactions. They used to get the PIN of the ATM card holders while pretending to help them with the transaction, and then withdraw money later.”
The accused were earlier arrested in connection with ATM card swapping and withdrawing money cases in both the Telugu States.
CCS Inspectors Lakavathula Ramesh Kumar, K Srinvas Rao, Jangaon Inspector P Bajali Varaprasand and members of the IT core team took part in the investigation and arrest of the thieves.
Station Ghanpur ASP Vaibhav Gaikwad and other officials were present at the press meet.
