Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) is planning to start the affiliation process for private colleges under its ambit with applications commencing in the last week of July.
Before granting affiliation this year, university authorities have decided to hold physical inspections of colleges by constituting factfinding committees in the third week of August. As the educational institutions were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the varsity had last year accorded permission to private colleges without physical inspections.
“Presently, staff selection in private colleges is underway. This will be followed by the application process for grant of affiliation. We are planning to start physical inspections of colleges around August 20. All colleges will be inspected for facilities,” a senior official said, adding that two engineering college managements had applied seeking progressive closure of their colleges this year.
For the academic year 2021-22, the university introduced four new programmes- CSE-Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, CSE-Computer Science and Design, CSE-Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and Mechanical Engineering-Automation and Robotics at the undergraduate level.
Similarly, at the PG level, CSE-Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, CSE-Cyber Security, Civil Engineering-Computer Aided Structural Engineering, ECE-Embedded System and VLSI, ECE-Internet of Things, ECE-Micro Electronics and VLSI Design, and Mechanical Engineering-Mechatronics programmes will be offered under the varsity.
With the introduction of these courses, around 25 colleges have sought permission from the university to launch new courses in emerging technologies while doing away with conventional engineering programmes.
“We have rejected applications of around 18 colleges which sought closure of conventional courses and approval of new programmes. The colleges cannot close down conventional courses but they can reduce the number of seats and go for new courses,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the JNTU-H College of Engineering, Sultanpur, has received approval from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) for introducing the B Pharmacy course from the academic year 2021-22. This is the first constituent college of the university to offer B Pharmacy.
