Karimnagar: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao found fault with BJP State president and local MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar for trying to create hurdles in the Karimnagar Smart City works by lodging complaint with the Central government.
“I came to know that Sanjay has lodged a complaint with union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs stating that Smart City works were moving at snail’s pace. He also alleged that the State government is diverting Smart City funds to other works instead of contributing its share,” Sunil Rao told media persons here on Friday.
Slamming the BJP leader for lodging a complaint with the Central Minister without knowing the facts, he said while many towns in the country have not yet started Smart City works of the works have been delayed in many towns. Karimnagar Smart City works have been going on fast track mode, he said.
With his complaint, Sanjay Kumar was trying to do injustice to the people of Karimnagar, which gave political life to him, he said and challenged the BJP MP to bring second phase funds of Smart City from the union government, the Mayor said.
Karimnagar Municipal Corporation got Rs 196 crore under the first phase of the Smart City programme. It was unfortunate on the part of Sanjay Kumar for not having knowledge about the release of Rs 100 crore by the State government, he said.
A total of 353 crore worth of works were under progress in the town. Right from the development of Kaman junction, circus ground park, multipurpose park, sports complex, smart roads and other works were under progress, he noted.
The Mayor said tenders to upgrade the dump yard through bio-mining process by spending Rs 15 crore were also invited. The tendering process was also completed to round-the-clock water supply in the town by spending Rs 18 crore. Tenders were also invited to develop an underground drainage system with Rs 48 crore.
They are going to develop traffic signaling systems in the town, e-classroom and modern toilets in all schools, CC cameras, vegetable markets, roads, solar roof tops, digital libraries and others. Besides commencing Rs 353 crore worth works, the tendering process of Rs 101 crore worth works was also completed. Informing that MCK has proposals for Rs 800 crore worth of works, he questioned as to where the works have been delayed.
Where was the need for BJP leaders for staging dharna though all these works were under progress. Each and every work has been taken up without compromise on the quality. Bills were also paid based on a quality control board report, he said.
