KARIMNAGAR: The district administration has set a new tradition by performing the marriage of an orphan woman with the support of officials, public representatives, and philanthropists. The wedding ceremony was performed on a grand scale following Hindu traditions.

While Collector Pamela Satpathy and Manakondur MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana completed the wedding ceremony acting as elders, the entire district administration attended the marriage and blessed the couple.

Kalabharathi became a platform for the rare event held under the aegis of the Women Development and Child Welfare Department on Sunday. Pooja (Mounika) along with her three sisters joined Karimnagar Balasadanam after the death of their parents in 2017. She studied up to intermediate by staying in the Balasadanam. After intermediate, she joined a multi-purpose health worker (MPHW) course.

While doing her internship, she became friends with Sai Teja from Manthani of Peddapalli district. As their friendship turned into love, they decided to lead a life together by getting married. As Mounika informed her decision to officials, Women and Child Welfare Development authorities fixed the marriage by consulting with the parents of the bridegroom.

While the Manakondur MLA arranged meals for all the guests, district officials including the Collector, district judge, officers of various departments, WCWD officials, TNGOs leaders, and others extended their support. Besides a marriage gift, the collector handed over a letter written by her to the newly wedded couple.

Expressing happiness for performing the marriage of an orphan woman, Pamela Satpathy assured to provide all support to Mounika in the future.

Sai Teja and his parents were requested to continue Mounika’s studies in the future since she completed a nursing course. Stating that Satyanarayana provided financial support for the marriage, the Collector said that district officials, WCWD, TNGOs also provided assistance.

Satyanarayana appreciated the Collector for starting a new tradition by performing the marriage of an orphan woman with the support of officials and philanthropists.
