Medak: BRS MLC K Kavitha on Tuesday vowed to fight for 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), proportionate to their population, as promised by the Congress in its Kamareddy BC Declaration during the 2023 Assembly election campaign.
Speaking at a round table meeting of BCs organised by Telangana Jagruthi and the United Phule Front (UPF) in Medak, Kavitha asserted that the Phule Front would serve as a voice for BCs in the State. Urging BC communities to remain united, she pointed out that several groups had been denied political opportunities even seven decades after Independence.
“Some communities have never had a chance to raise their voice in the Assembly or Parliament,” she said, adding that it was due to Telangana Jagruthi’s sustained efforts that the State government passed the BC Declaration Bill in both the Assembly and the Legislative Council.
Kavitha described the denial of rightful opportunities to a significant section of Telangana’s population as a violation of human rights. She appealed to citizens from all walks of life to join the movement for justice to BCs.
Criticising the Congress and BJP for failing to push the reservation bill in Parliament, she urged the people of Medak to question their elected representatives—particularly Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao—who she alleged had made no effort on the issue.
The MLC stressed the need for separate bills to ensure reservations in education, employment, and electoral representation. She also questioned the transparency of the Congress government’s ongoing caste census. “If the caste census were really accurate, the government would have displayed it at Panchayat offices,” she remarked.
Kavitha called upon BCs across Telangana to take part in the rail roko protest on July 17, jointly organised by Telangana Jagruthi and the United Phule Front in support of the reservation demand.
