Kavitha to stage day-long hunger strike demanding installation of Jyotirao Phule’s statue in Telangana Assembly
Kavitha had previously appealed to the Speaker and pressed the State government to install the statue before Phule’s birth anniversary on April 11. With no action taken so far, she is now preparing to lead a protest to pay tribute to Phule’s legacy and his role in championing social justice.

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha will stage a day-long hunger strike at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on Tuesday, demanding the installation of social reformer Jyotirao Phule’s statue in the Telangana Assembly. She will be on the hunger strike from 11 AM to 5 PM.
Kavitha had earlier urged the Speaker and demanded the State government to ensure the installation of the statue ahead of Phule’s birth anniversary on April 11. With no action till date, she is set to lead the protest to honour Phule’s legacy and his contributions to social justice.
As part of a State-wide campaign, Telangana Jagruthi conducted 14 roundtable meetings across the State, with Kavitha leading a movement for BC (Backward Classes) rights and reservations. She has conducted extensive consultations across districts in Telangana to amplify BC concerns and demanded the implementation of the Kamareddy BC Declaration made by the Congress party during the Assembly elections.
Additionally, the BRS MLC has been at the forefront of demanding the implementation of 42 per cent reservations for BCs in the State. Due to her constant efforts, the State government had finally introduced two separate bills in the Assembly to provide 42 per cent reservations for BCs in politics, employment, and education.
