KCR extends Sankranti greetings, points out farmer-centric initiatives under BRS rule
Recalling the initiatives implemented during his tenure, the former Chief Minister underscored the transformative schemes introduced by the BRS government to uplift agriculture and rural livelihoods
Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao extended his greetings to the people of Telangana on the occasion of Sankranti, calling it the festival of farmers. He said the festival was an apt reflection of the prosperity brought by a strong agricultural foundation and the efforts of the previous BRS regime to improve farmers’ lives.
In a statement here, Chandrashekhar Rao emphasised the significance of the three-day festivities, beginning with Bhogi, followed by Makar Sankranti and concluding with Kanuma, as a celebration deeply rooted in the agricultural and rural culture of the State. He remembered Sankranti’s unique traditions, including Rangavallu, Gobbemmas, bonfires and Gangireddulata, which unite families and communities.
Recalling the initiatives implemented during his tenure, the former Chief Minister underscored the transformative schemes introduced by the BRS government to uplift agriculture and rural livelihoods. These included 24-hour free electricity for farming, large-scale irrigation projects, the Rythu Bandhu scheme providing investment support to farmers, and Rythu Bima, ensuring financial security for farmers’ families.
He noted that these measures, alongside Rs 4.5 lakh crore investments in agriculture over ten years, had earned Telangana global recognition as a model for agricultural progress. He also lauded the BRS government’s support to caste-based occupations, which revitalised rural economies and brought prosperity to communities.
Urging the current Congress government to prioritise farmers’ welfare beyond political considerations, Chandrashekhar Rao reiterated his vision to celebrate agriculture like a festival in Telangana. He also prayed for Mother Nature’s blessings on the lives of the farming community.
