Khammam: Commissioner of Police (CP) Vishnu S Warrier has assured all possible support to thalassemia patients from the police department.
He flagged off the thalassemia awareness rally organised by Sankalpa Voluntary Organisation and Indian Medical Association here on Saturday and addressed the gathering. He lauded the services being rendered by social organisations to the benefit of the patients.
Warrier lauded the services of a volunteer Anitha, an RTC conductor, to thalassemia patients. He called upon the people in the society to support everyone who was serving thalassemia patients.
IMA president Dr. B Kishan Rao assured to extend their services to Sankalpa organisation and all others taking care of thalassemia patients. The students of Government Women’s College, Mamata Medical College and Mamata Nursing College, members of Reach Foundation took part in the rally.
Later in the day, the CP visited Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society’s medical centre in Khammam. He interacted with the society’s office bearers Dr. Kurapati Pradeep and Ratnavali and lauded their services to the needy patients. He also spoke to the patients and their parents.
Dr. Pradeep informed that free screening for thalassemia and sickle cell anemia patients and their parents and 10-bedded hospital facility were available at the society’s medical centre. In association with Vijayasri Blood Bank free blood was being provided to thalassemia patients.
Around 200 patients were availing free medical services at the medical centre, he informed adding that District Collector VP Gautham instructed to conduct screening tests at all health centres in the district.
