Khammam: Erstwhile Khammam Catholic Diocese Bishop Dr. Sagili Prakash exhorted Christians to stand at the forefront of public service.
He led a procession with priests and believers, carrying the Jubilee cross followed by a Holy Mass at the closing ceremony of the Ordinary Jubilee-2025 celebrations at Karunagiri here on Sunday. Earlier, he lowered the Jubilee flag marking the closing of the Jubilee Year.
A Jubilee Year is traditionally proclaimed by the Universal Church every 25 years. It is a particular year set aside to encourage the faithful to embark on pilgrimages, to repent of their sins, forgive others, and to renew a focus on spiritual life.
Later, during the thanksgiving service, Bishop Dr. Prakash said that since the former Pope Francis declared 2025 as the Jubilee Year worldwide, the Khammam diocese had conducted several service programmes in a remarkable manner throughout the year.
He said that Jesus Christ embraced all of humanity without discrimination and constantly provided reassurance. All Christians should act with compassion, kindness, peace and harmony towards their fellow human beings without any reservations, following this same spirit.
The Bishop stated that during the year, the diocese had conducted quality English classes for students through remedial schools and provided medical facilities to the public. Essential commodities were provided to those in need and blood donation camps were organised to support patients.
Dr. Prakash informed that demonstrations were held seeking to issue SC certificates to Dalit Christians. He felicitated newly elected sarpanches, their deputies, couples who had completed 50 years of married life and priests who had served the Church for 25 years. He joined a community feast with 2,000 people.
