Khammam: Questions are being raised over the selection of Indiramma housing scheme beneficiaries if the testimonial of a ‘poor’ woman at an official programme attended by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is any indication.
In an intriguing incident that took place at ‘Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika’ meeting recently in the Minister’s Palair constituency in the district, the woman, Neelamma, approached the dais to thank Srinivas Reddy for allotting her an Indiramma house.
When the Minister asked her how many children she had and what they were doing, the woman gave a rather curious reply. She stated that she had four children: the younger son went to London, the elder son runs a political strategy firm and a daughter works in the electricity department.
She went on to add that the family had a tiled-roof house, had faced many troubles and with the help of the State government and the Minister Srinivas Reddy, she got an Indiramma house.
“We could now happily claim we have a house of our own” she said.
A video clipping of her conversation with the Minister has gone viral on social media with Netizens commenting that Indiramma houses are, in principle, meant to be allotted to the poor. They are appealing to the authorities to ensure the selection of genuine beneficiaries.
