Kidney racket: One more suspect held by Rachakonda police

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the illegal kidney transplantation racket which was operated by Alakananda Hospital, Saroornagar.

As per available information, the suspect Dr Raja Shekhar Perumal, a surgeon from Tamil Nadu was roped in by prime suspect Dr Siddamshetty Avinash, General Surgeon for performing the illegal kidney transplantations.

Raja Shekhar Perumal and Dr Sohib from Jammu and Kashmir, as well as operating theater assistants Shankar (Tamil Nadu), Pradeep, and Suraj (Karnataka) were instrumental in conducting operations.

Avinash collected Rs 55 lakh to Rs 60 lakh from each organ recipient, out of which Rs 5 lakh was given to the donor, Rs 10 lakh to the lead surgeon, around Rs 30,000 to the five operating theater assistants.

They conducted about 20 surgeries at Alakananda Hospital in December 2024.

The Rachakonda Police have already arrested nine persons in the case including Avinash, Sumanth, Managing Director of Alakananda Hospital, Ponnuswamy Pradeep and Suraj Mishra, mediators, and Narsagani Gopi, Ramavath Ravi, Sapavath Ravinder, Sapavath Harish and Podila Sai.

Efforts are on to nab the other suspects.
