Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy miffed over Cabinet berth to juniors, says he is prepared to quit
Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy expressed dissatisfaction over being denied a Cabinet berth despite assurances from the Congress high command. Alleging fund allocation bias towards CM Revanth Reddy’s constituency, he warned that he was prepared to resign as MLA for Munugode’s development
Hyderabad: Mincing no words about the Congress high command’s failure to fulfil its promise of offering him a Cabinet berth after quitting the BJP, Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy said he was prepared to resign as MLA in the interest of his constituency.
“The party high command had assured me a Cabinet berth, that’s the reason I returned to the Congress. Now, it is up to them to deliver on that promise,” Rajgopal Reddy said while addressing party workers at Sansthan Narayanpur on Tuesday.
The Munugode MLA said that despite being junior to him, several turncoats who joined the Congress from other parties were inducted into the Cabinet.
“As per instructions from the high command to ensure the Congress candidate’s victory from the Bhongir parliamentary constituency, I fought hard and succeeded,” he reminded.
Stating that he would neither plead for positions nor compromise on self-respect, Rajgopal Reddy said that if he were inducted into the Cabinet, it would accelerate development in his constituency.
“People want positions to amass wealth, but I want Munugode’s development. If needed, I am prepared to resign as MLA,” he said.
Later, speaking at Chimiryala, Rajgopal Reddy raised objections over alleged discrimination in the allocation of funds. He claimed a disparity between Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency and others.
“Kodangal received Rs.5,000 crore for various development works, while other constituencies are being sidelined,” he said, echoing concerns voiced by other MLAs about the preferential treatment being accorded to Kodangal.
Notably, Narayankhed MLA P Sanjeeva Reddy had also complained about fund disparity during AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan’s recent padayatra, pointing out that his constituency received significantly less than Kodangal.
Meanwhile, Rajgopal Reddy’s elder brother and Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said he was unaware of any promise made to his sibling.
“If he is offered a Cabinet berth, it’s good. But ultimately, the party high command and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will decide,” he said.
On Rajgopal Reddy’s resignation warning, the Minister declined to comment on issues not concerning him.
