Hyderabad: In a controversial move, Telangana police arrested Konatham Dileep, the former Digital Media Director of the State, at Hyderabad Airport upon his return from the United States.

Dileep had traveled to Virginia, USA, on May 18, to attend the launch of a memoir book dedicated to his late father, Konatham Bakka Reddy. He was allegedly taken into custody as soon as he arrived in Hyderabad.

Sources said the Telangana police detained him in connection with FIR No. 353 of 2025, and that he was being taken to the Nirmal police station for further proceedings.

A police official confirmed the transfer but provided no additional details about the charges. The arrest comes amid allegations that the Revanth Reddy government was targeting Dileep for his criticism of the State administration on social media.

Over the past year, around 15 cases have allegedly been filed against him, which Dileep has repeatedly described as “illegal” and a form of harassment for questioning the Congress government’s failures.

Adding to the controversy, a “Look Out Circular” was issued against Dileep last year. However, he challenged the circular by moving the High Court, which granted him permission to travel to the US for a month to attend the book launch event organized by his family.

His lawyer condemned the arrest, stating that the police action is a direct violation of the High Court’s orders.
