Hyderabad: The Government Engineering College Kosgi, which has been set up by the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in his Kodangal assembly constituency, has yet again failed to attract students.
Only 41 (20.7 percent) out of 198 seats were allotted to students as per their preference in the TG EAPCET 2025 second-phase counselling results, allotment released by the Technical Education department on Tuesday.
As per Revanth Reddy’s directions, the Technical Education department commenced the engineering college in Kosgi by upgrading the existing Government Polytechnic College from the academic year 2024-25.
This was the first engineering college established in the government sector under the control of the Commissioner of Technical Education, with affiliation to JNTU-Hyderabad. As per the demand, the government launched CSE, CSE AI & ML), and CSE (Data Science) programmes in this college.
However, despite having well-qualified faculty with sufficient infrastructure and laboratory, and a hostel for boys as well, the College has failed to attract students. Only 84 candidates had enrolled in this college after the TG EAPCET 2024 final phase of counselling.
Interestingly, this time, the percentage of allotments was higher in the private engineering colleges than the university colleges, which used to be top pick for students every year.
A total of 79.7 percent out of 6,199 seats in 20 university colleges were allocated. On the other hand, the 155 private engineering colleges saw 92.1 percent seat allotment out of 83,713 seats, reflecting students’ preference.
