Kothagudem: In view of the municipal elections, the residents of different divisions in Kothagudem Municipal Corporation have taken up an innovative approach to highlight the problems being faced by them.
The residents have been displaying flex banners in the streets with a list of issues to be addressed and seeking contesting candidates to address them. The majority of the issues are largely common ones.
For instance in Medara Basthi division number 53 (old municipal ward 21) the residents put up a banner in their colony with their main demands that have to be addressed by the winning candidate.
The residents wanted CCTV cameras installed in the municipal division and drinking water supplied during morning hours. They also sought the elected corporator to address the menace of monkeys and stray dogs besides ensuring regular police patrolling in the colonies.
Speaking to Telangana Today a trader Venkata Swamy, who lives in Medara Basthi, stated that the issues they listed out are genuine ones and the residents have been asking all the contesting candidates to give an assurance of addressing them.
The residents are unable to grow a vegetable garden despite having enough space in their houses as monkeys damage the plants in addition to food items that are kept outside to dry, he complained.
Meanwhile, several independent candidates have released their manifestoes like the mainstream political parties are doing. An independent candidate in 14th division, D Ratnakumar, promised that he would supply filtered water free of cost from his own funds to all the residents if he is elected.
He promised to provide a body freezer and a ‘Vaikuntaradham’ besides financial assistance of Rs 20,000 in case anyone died in a family. Providing Rs 10,000 to a family if a girl child is born and an equal amount for the marriage of a girl are among the promises he made.
