Kothagudem: The second additional judicial first class magistrate K Sai Sri on Tuesday sentenced a young woman to imprisonment and imposed a fine for hiring a minor to write the SSC examination on her behalf in 2016.
It was said that an invigilator Banoth Ramesh while inspecting the exam room number 19 at SR Digital School Centre, Ramnagar in Kothagudem town on March 31, 2016 got suspicious about the identity of a student appearing for the exam.
Upon questioning, the suspicious student, E Anusha admitted that she was writing the examination instead of Rachabanti Seshamani. Then the invigilator complained to chief superintendent N Shahaji Babu about the impersonation.
Shahaji Babu filed a complaint with the one-town police and the then Inspector of police R Srinivas registered a case. After the investigation, the charge was filed in the court. Seshamani was found guilty after the trial, during which five witnesses were examined.
The magistrate sentenced Seshamani to three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 under the Andhra Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Means) Act, 1997 and one year imprisonment under Section 419 of IPC.
Both the sentences would run concurrently. Vishwashanthi conducted the prosecution, court liaison officer Mohammad Abdul Ghani, Chunchupally court constable Ramakrishna assisted. Anusha, who was 17 year old when the case was registered, was lodged at a juvenile care centre for one week in Khammam.
