Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s birthday initiative, Gift a Smile, has come to the aid of an MBBS student struggling to continue her education due to financial hardship.

Inspired by the gesture, a doctor couple stepped forward to fund her studies and donated Rs 1 lakh.

Sushmita, an MBBS student at Osmania Medical College and a resident of Venkatapur in Jogulamba Gadwal district, had appealed to Rama Rao on social media, seeking help to pursue her education.

Responding to her plea, noted neurophysician Dr Chandrashekhar Pathakoti and his wife Dr Pranaya Vani took up the responsibility of covering her educational expenses.

Dr Chandrashekhar, who practises at hospitals in Musheerabad and Nacharam, handed over Rs 1 lakh as immediate financial support on Monday.

Sushmita and her parents later met Rama Rao to personally thank him for the timely support. Rama Rao congratulated the couple and felicitated them for their humane gesture.
