Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday slammed the Congress government for its callousness and gross mismanagement of fertiliser supply that has left nearly 70 lakh farmers across the State in distress. He said farmers who should be busy in their fields are now forced to wait in long queues outside fertiliser shops, struggling to secure urea and DAP.

He blamed the government for its lack of coordination and administrative failure, leading to the crisis.

“This is not a farmer’s government or people’s government, but a demonic rule that is oppressing the very people it promised to serve,” he said.

Contrasting the Congress rule with the previous BRS regime, Rama Rao recalled how under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima were implemented to restore farmers’ confidence, provide investment support, and secure their families.

He pointed out that Markfed, the nodal agency under the BRS government, had proactively ensured a buffer stock of 3–4 lakh metric tons of fertilisers by June and coordinated with the Centre to draw allocations in July and August.

“We ensured timely supply by providing financial support to Markfed and purchasing stocks in advance during April and May, when northern States have no demand,” he noted.

The BRS working president held the Congress government responsible for the current crisis, stating that it failed to lift the fertiliser quota from the Centre during April, May, and June.

“There were no reviews, no coordination, and no planning. In ten years of BRS rule, farmers never stood in lines for fertilisers,” he reminded.
