Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the attacks on BRS cadre by the ruling Congress following the sarpanch elections in Somarpet village of Yellareddy constituency in Kamareddy district on Monday. He charged the Congress government with deteriorating law and order and stated that such attacks by ruling party leaders were becoming routine.
Tensions escalated in Somarpet village after the results were declared. BRS sarpanch candidate Bitla Balaraju was sitting outside his house with family members and supporters when the winning Congress candidate, who was a relative of the local mandal Congress president, allegedly arrived on a tractor and rammed into the gathering, injuring Balaraju and several others. The severely injured were rushed to a hospital by locals.
In a statement, Rama Rao termed the attack cowardly and inhumane. He spoke to Yellareddy constituency in-charge and former MLA Jajala Surender to assess the situation and promised all possible support to the victims on behalf of the party. He also contacted the Kamareddy district Superintendent of Police, demanding immediate and stringent action.
He sought criminal cases and the arrest of the accused, questioning whether police would remain mute spectators to such incidents. Warning of serious consequences if such attacks continued, he said it was the police’s responsibility to rein in the Congress leaders and ensure the rule of law.
“If such attacks continue against the BRS leaders, the party cadre and people would revolt, which could lead to a law and order situation in the State. Police must perform their duty as per law, notwithstanding who is in power,” he asserted.
