Hyderabad: Ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurating the Chanaka-Korata and Sadarmat barrages in the erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao asserted that the projects were virtually completed during the previous BRS government and only formally unveiled now. He stated that over 90 per cent of both irrigation structures were completed by the time the BRS demitted office in December 2023.
In a post on X, Rama Rao said Chanaka-Korata Barrage, designed with a storage capacity of 0.98 TMC, had 95 per cent of its works finished under K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure. He reminded that a trial run was conducted in September 2023. Initiated in 2016 following an inter-State agreement with Maharashtra, the project was expected to provide irrigation to about 51,000 acres across 89 villages in Adilabad and Boath constituencies through its lift irrigation component.
He said with a storage capacity of 1.58 TMCft, around 90 per cent of the Sadarmat barrage construction was completed earlier under BRS rule. The project is estimated to stabilise 18,000 acres of ayacut in Nirmal and Jagtial districts. “During the decade-long KCR rule, previously parched lands in these regions had turned fertile due to irrigation initiatives,” he added.
