Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Telangana government following Governor Jishnu Dev Verma’s speech addressing the joint session of the State Legislature on Wednesday. He dismissed the speech as a Congress publicity stunt, using the Governor’s office to spread lies, half-truths, and deception.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Rama Rao expressed disappointment that the speech failed to address critical issues such as the 420 unfulfilled promises and six guarantees made by the Congress government. He said the Revanth Reddy government failed farmers, with non-implementation of the promised crop loan waiver. He blamed the Congress rule for 480 farmer suicides.
“Despite BRS leaders challenging the government to prove a 100 per cent loan waiver in any single village, there was no response. Instead, the Governor falsely claimed that the loan waiver was completed and that the farmers were happy,” he said.
The BRS working president lambasted the Congress government’s neglect of irrigation projects, charging it with destroying agriculture in the Godavari River basin due to political vendetta against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He reminded that Medigadda Barrage has remained unrepaired for 15 months, causing crops to dry up on lakhs of acres. He said farmers were now forced to graze cattle in barren fields, yet the Governor’s speech failed to acknowledge this crisis or mention corrective measures.
Rama Rao condemned unprecedented corruption in the State, referring to an incident where contractors staged a protest outside Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s chamber in the State Secretariat recently. He stated that they were being forced to pay a 20 per cent commission to get their bills approved. He criticised the Congress government for having no vision except looting the State, and running an anarchic regime that denies students overseas scholarships and fails to provide basic meals in Gurukul schools, leading to 83 student deaths.
Comparing the economic policies, the former Minister stated that while the Chandrashekhar Rao government took a debt of Rs 4.17 lakh crore in 10 years and launched numerous irrigation projects, infrastructure development and welfare schemes, the Congress government has already borrowed Rs 1.62 lakh crore in just 15 months without launching a single new scheme or project.
He also slammed the Congress for misleading the public about attracting Rs 1.79 lakh crore worth of investments at the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit at Davos.
“Not even a single rupee of the Rs 40,000 crore promised last year has materialised. Revanth Reddy is driving away key investments like Kaynes (Rs 3,800 crore), Corning (Rs 1,000 crore), and Premier Energy (Rs 1,700 crore) to Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, due to his inefficiency,” he said.
Rama Rao ridiculed the Congress government’s focus on installing statues inside and opposite the Telangana Secretariat instead of solving governance issues. He reiterated that once BRS returned to power, these statues would be removed and sent back to Gandhi Bhavan.
He also stated that the Congress betrayed BCs by releasing a false caste census report and promising to implement BC reservation policies, but silenced its own MLCs for questioning the authenticity of the caste census report and faulty policies. He declared that the people of Telangana would not be fooled and would deliver an appropriate answer to the Congress government’s deception.
