Rajanna-Sircilla: BRS working president KT Rama Rao promised to pay the premium for the Rs 5 lakh accident insurance scheme for autorickshaw drivers from the district.
He said he had taken the decision to force the State government to respond and take up the responsibility of paying the insurance premium for all drivers across Telangana. Rama Rao asked local leaders and auto unions to collect drivers’ details, including name, phone number and Aadhaar number, and send them by Wednesday evening. Once the details are received, the premium would be paid within three to four days, he said.
Rama Rao, who was in Sircilla to attend various programmes, held a meeting with autorickshaw drivers at Telangana Bhavan on Monday. He criticised the Congress government for ignoring the hardships faced by drivers and said the previous BRS government had extended extensive support to them. He remarked that the Congress had failed to fulfil its promises and take up welfare measures for drivers.
He said all drivers working in the unorganised sector were provided Rs 5 lakh accident insurance on the lines of Rythu Bima during the BRS government led by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. However, the benefit was lost after the present government failed to pay the premium in October.
Rama Rao added that the Congress had promised Rs.12,000 annual financial assistance for each autorickshaw driver and, with the government completing two years, it now owed Rs.24,000 to every driver. He also said the party had promised to set up a welfare board within 100 days but had failed to do so.
