Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday lashed out at the BJP-led Union Government, questioning its continued silence on a slew of corruption allegations against the Congress government in Telangana. He said the Centre was shielding Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy despite mounting charges of financial irregularities and abuse of power.
“If the Congress government in Telangana has become an ATM for Delhi, why has the NDA government remained a mute spectator for the last 18 months? Can you answer why?” Rama Rao asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah, reacting to the latter’s recent allegations against the Congress. Citing several instances, he recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had earlier accused the Congress of collecting “RR Tax” from builders and contractors, yet no probe was initiated. He also referred to the Rs. 1,137 crore AMRUT contract that was allegedly awarded to Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law despite ineligibility.
The BRS working president also questioned the Centre’s failure to act on a Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC) recommendation to probe a Rs.10,000 crore financial fraud involving forest land at Kancha Gachibowli. He further alleged that Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy benefited from the Rs. 4,400 crore Kodangal Lift Irrigation project contract.
Rama Rao said the Enforcement Directorate had named Revanth Reddy in the National Herald case but no follow-up action was taken. Referring to the Valmiki Corporation scam in Karnataka, he said that Rs.45 crore allegedly linked to Telangana Congress leaders did not evoke any response from the BJP.
“Delhi mein dosti, gully mein kusthi; sabko pata chal gaya,” he quipped, implying a backdoor political understanding between the BJP and the Congress in Telangana.
