Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao cornered Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his recent assurance that Jayashankar Bhupalpally district would not be abolished, questioning his credibility in keeping promises. He reminded that Revanth Reddy and the Congress leaders promised six guarantees and 420 promises, but delivered none.
Addressing a packed roadshow as part of the municipal election campaign in Bhupalpally on Monday, Rama Rao referred to Revanth Reddy’s statement that Bhupalpally district would not be abolished and asked who had given the Chief Minister the authority to even speak of scrapping a district named after Telangana ideologue Prof K Jayashankar. “Did Revanth Reddy create this district? Did he name it after Prof Jayashankar? Did he bring a medical college here?” he asked, prompting the crowd to shout “KCR” in response.
He listed works taken up during the BRS regime, including 1,000 double-bedroom houses, 19,000 Singareni dependent jobs and workers’ quarters. He asked what the Congress government had achieved in the last two years to make such assurances credible.
The BRS working president said Revanth Reddy had a record of saying one thing and doing another, citing the failure to implement the six guarantees. “He promises not to abolish the district today, but there is no guarantee tomorrow. Trusting him again will only embolden him and abolish the district claiming that people voted for his party repeatedly which was approval to his actions,” he warned, urging voters to use the municipal polls to send a clear message.
Rama Rao said the Congress had promised heaven to people, but delivered them hell through unkept promises. He reminded that farmers were still waiting for Rythu Bharosa financial assistance in February that was released in December duing the BRS tenure, in-time for Yasangi (Rabi) crop season. He also targeted the BJP, which had failed to deliver anything to Telangana despite being in power at the Centre for over 12 years.
He warned the Chief Minister against using abusive language against BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. “You will not be in power forever. When BRS returns to power after two years, we will ensure that you pay for your sins,” he added. He also cautioned police officers against acting at the behest of ruling party leaders, asserting that they will be held accountable when BRS returns to power after two years.
Rama Rao drew loud responses from the crowd as he asked whether the Congress had delivered its poll pledges, including one tola of gold under Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak, Rs 4,000 Aasara pension, Rs 2,500 assistance to women, Rythu Bharosa and KCR Kits. The crowd responded in unison that none of the promises had reached them.
He called on voters to teach the Congress a lesson by voting for the BRS’s Car symbol in the municipal elections, describing the poll as a referendum on the government’s credibility and its unfulfilled assurances.
