Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao charged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with acting in tandem to push the controversial Musi Riverfront Development Project. He said the initiative was being used to demolish the homes of the poor while failing to provide alternative housing.
Addressing party cadre in Rajendranagar on Sunday, Rama Rao said both the Congress government in Telangana and the BJP-led Centre were jointly misleading the people. Referring to the transfer of Defence Ministry land for the Musi project, he questioned the BJP’s opposition to house demolitions while facilitating land allotments required for the project.
He said Modi and Revanth Reddy were working together as “Bade Bhai and Chote Bhai” to deceive the people of Telangana. “If the BJP is genuinely opposing the demolition of houses belonging to the poor, why did the Centre alienate Defence land for the project?” he questioned.
Rama Rao recalled that even Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Tushar Gandhi, had opposed the demolition of homes in the name of the Musi project. “Even Mahatma Gandhi’s soul would cry out at the destruction being carried out by Revanth Reddy in his name,” he said, adding that Revanth Reddy believed in Godse while falsely claiming to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
The BRS working president said thousands of houses in Hyderabad were being razed in the name of Musi rejuvenation and HYDRAA operations, while the government had failed to construct even a single house across the city. Contrasting the Congress government’s actions with the previous BRS regime, he said land titles were distributed to the poor under the K Chandrashekhar Rao government, while the present government was focused on demolitions.
He questioned the justification for spending thousands of crores of rupees on projects and monuments while claiming a shortage of funds.
Rama Rao said the Congress came to power by making unrealistic promises and had failed to fulfil them even after two-and-a-half years in office. Calling the Congress government’s performance an utter flop, he said the people of Telangana were waiting for the return of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao.
“If a movie flops, only the producer will suffer losses. The Congress government has not only delivered an utter flop, but has also imposed a hefty Rs 4 lakh crore debt burden and liabilities,” he said.
Targeting the Congress leadership, the BRS working president accused Congress ministers of functioning like a mafia network engaged in land, sand and mining scams. He said the government was exploiting projects such as Musi and Future City for real estate interests while neglecting development and welfare.
Drawing comparisons with the previous BRS regime, Rama Rao recalled initiatives such as Rythu Bandhu, 24-hour power supply, residential schools, minority educational institutions and land title regularisation for the poor under GO 50. He said these welfare measures had either been weakened or abandoned under the present Congress government.
The former minister also questioned the status of the Congress party’s Six Guarantees, unemployment allowance and financial assistance schemes for women, pointing out that the promises made during the elections remained largely unfulfilled despite assurances that they would be implemented within 100 days. He said the government had accumulated massive debt without delivering tangible benefits.
Rama Rao charged Rajendranagar MLA T Prakash Goud with betraying the people and the party by defecting to the ruling Congress. However, he asserted that the BRS remained strong in the constituency with its grassroots cadre. He urged party workers to remain vigilant during voter list revision exercises. He assured them that the BRS would stand by those affected by the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
