KU VC asks alumni associations to engage in global partnerships with university

Hanamkonda: Kakatiya University Vice Chancellor Prof K Pratap Reddy urged university alumni associations to engage in global partnerships with the university.
He emphasised the need to launch innovative initiatives under the banner of an ‘Alumni Centre of Excellence’ aimed at global academic and industrial collaborations. The VC addressed former students, retired faculty and their families at Atlanta and New Jersey in the US as part of the university’s Department of Pharmacy Golden Jubilee celebrations.
A three-day event themed ‘Celebrate and Contribute’ was held under the leadership of KU alumnus Dr Samba Reddy on behalf of the KU Pharmacy Chapter, USA. Highlighting the department’s achievements over five decades, Prof Pratap Reddy said over 3,000 students graduated with B Pharmacy, 1,800 with M Pharmacy and 370 with PhD.
The alumni were now contributing as scientists, entrepreneurs, regulatory officials and pharmacy educators worldwide. Notable alumni included former Director of the US FDA Dr Mansoor Khan, founder of Divi’s Laboratories Dr D V Muralikrishna, and Dr Samba Reddy working at Texas A&M University. The VC noted that Dr Samba Reddy’s pharmaceutical research led to several path-breaking medicines approved by the FDA.
Prof Pratap Reddy paid homage to Prof Y Madhusudhan Rao, retired professor of the Pharmacy Department, and appreciated Professors CK Kokate, Malla Reddy, Amareshwar, Ram Bahu, D Ramakrishna and MC Prabhakar, who played a key role in bringing international recognition to KU pharmacy education.
The VC stressed the need for student and faculty exchange programmes, training and industrial visits in line with evolving trends in the pharmacy sector, establishment of a state-of-the-art ‘Alumni Golden Jubilee Research Centre of Excellence’, formation of an India-USA Joint Research Grant with alumni support, and promotion of online teaching and global research awareness.
He invited alumni to actively participate and contribute to the concluding ceremony of the Pharmacy Golden Jubilee scheduled to be held in Warangal at the end of December. President of the KU Pharmacy Chapter-USA T Srinivas Paruchuri and others were present, a release said.
