Hanamkonda: Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor Prof. K Pratap Reddy has released a book titled “Rivers of Grace: Exploring the Majestic Waterways and Timeless Beauty of India” authored by Prof. B Suresh Lal.
Speaking after releasing the book at KU here on Thursday, Prof. Pratap Reddy said Rivers of Grace is an immersive journey through India’s most iconic and lesser-known rivers revealing the magnificent interplay between nature, culture and history that each waterway embodies.
The book’s narrative begins with the sacred Ganges, tracing its origins in the Himalayas and exploring the spiritual practices centered on its life-giving waters. Alongside this, the story delves into the Brahmaputra’s fierce rapids and expansive floodplains, highlighting its role in sustaining diverse wildlife and communities.
The Indian Economic Association chief convener Dr Anil Kumar Thakur stated that as the book progresses, readers are taken to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, where the intricate network of rivers and canals paints a serene landscape inhabited by unique flora and fauna.
The journey continues along the Yamuna, sharing tales of ancient cities and legends that have flourished on its banks, contrasting with modern conservation challenges. The book also explores the Narmada and Godavari rivers, illustrating their significance in regional cultures and economies, he said.
The book’s author, Prof. Lal, speaking about it noted that throughout the book personal stories, historical anecdotes and environmental insights intertwine, providing a layered understanding of each river’s essence.
The narrative weaves through India’s rivers, including the Saraswati, whose mysterious disappearance into legend sparks a discussion of the relationship between myth and ecology. The tale culminates in reflecting on the contemporary threats these waterways face from pollution to damming and the grassroots movements striving to restore their purity and vitality.
With evocative imagery and lyrical prose, “Rivers of Grace” ends on a hopeful note, emphasising the rivers’ enduring spirit and their timeless capacity to connect people, nature and the divine, he added
The KU EC member Anitha Reddy, faculty Dr. Sadu Rajesh, Dr Samba Siva Rao, Dr. Bollikonda Veerender, Dr. Ramesh, Dr. Sridhar Lode, Harishankar, Raveender, Naveen and others participated in the book release and congratulated the author.
