Hyderabad: BRS Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao strongly opposed the Congress-led government taking up demolition of houses of the poor in the name of HYDRAA and Musi Riverfront Development project. He accused the State government of terrorising the people of Hyderabad for the past three months. He demanded that the government hold consultations with all the stakeholders, and take them into confidence before taking up any such activities.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, Krishna Rao demanded that the government stop harassing residents and instead, focus on supporting the poor. “The government should release the list tanks existed in Hyderabad in the past and how many remain today, along with their full tank levels and buffer zones,” he said. He also demanded the State government to order for a judicial inquiry into the alleged encroachments.

He ridiculed the claims of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that BRS leaders had encroached on Nallacheruvu pond and demanded him to furnish a report on who was responsible. He reminded that the BRS government initiated embankment of the Nallacheruvu tank, but withdrew following a court order. He also challenged the Chief Minister to investigate if BRS leaders encroached upon tanks in Kukatpally and demolish them.

The BRS MLA found fault with the Congress government for treating the citizens as encroachers, despite them constructing houses after paying all taxes and obtaining all permissions. He said the BJP was neglecting Hyderabad, stating they had not contributed financially to the city’s development. He welcomed the Chief Minister’s proposal for an all-party meeting, urging him to coordinate with local MLAs, MPs, and corporators to ensure better governance in Hyderabad.
