Karimnagar: Welfare Minister Koppula Eashwar said Dalits, who used to work as daily wage labourers and vehicle drivers, were becoming now becoming the owners of vehicles by getting benefit under Dalit Bandhu scheme.
In order to bring comprehensive a change in the lives of dalits, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao introduced Dalit Bandhu scheme, he said and expressed hope that dalit would get more benefits with the scheme. He and BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar and SC Corporation chairman Banda Srinivas distributed dalit bandhu units to beneficiaries in a programme held in Ambedkar stadium here on Saturday. 63 units were distributed to 146 beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister informed that Rs 15.30 crore worth vehicles including 51 harvesters, four excavators, six DCM vans, tractorand paddy plantation machine were distributed to beneficiaries. Three to four beneficiaries by forming a group have chosen different units such as harvesters, excavators, DCM vans. Eashwar advised all eligible beneficiaries to develop economically by selecting more demanding units under the scheme.

Stating that dalit bandhu was a continues programme, he said that presently, it is being implemented in Huzurabad constituency as well as four other mandals. Kamalakar hoped that dalit bandhu would bring a change in the lives of dalits since Rs 10 lakh worth units have been provided to beneficiaries without collecting a single rupee. He thanked the Chief Minister for providing them an opportunity to distribute units to beneficiaries. Next year, the scheme would be implemented across the state, he informed and advised beneficiaries to develop economically by running units properly.

Collector RV Karnan advised that the entire family should work in the units to get more benefit thus to become role models to others. ZP chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya, MLC Padi Koushik Reddy, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, additional collector (local bodies) Garima Agarwal, assistant collector and Huzurabad in-charge RDO Mayank Mittal, Karimnagar RDO Anand Kumar, SC corporation ED Suresh, deputy transport commissioner Chandrashekhar Goud and others participated in the programme.
