Lagacherla tribals reach New Delhi to lodge complaints with National SC/ST Commission
Likely to approach National Human Rights Commission to file cases against Telangana Police and Congress govt for physical assault on their family members
Hyderabad: A day after approaching the Telangana State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, family members of tribal farmers from Lagacherla, against whom cases were booked for allegedly attacking Vikarabad Collector Prateek Jain, reached New Delhi on Sunday to lodge complaints with the National SC/ST Commission.
They are also likely to approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and lodge complaints against the State police department and Congress government for the physical assault on their family members, besides filing cases.
On November 12, the Vikarabad district administration had organised a public hearing programme for land acquisition to set up a pharma village at Lagacherla village in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency.
However, the farmers and villagers, who were against parting with their land for the proposed pharma village, boycotted the hearing.
Apart from raising slogans against the Congress government, the farmers and villagers attacked the District Collector and other officials.
At least 25 persons were arrested in connection with the incident.
However, the tribal farmers and their family members have alleged that the police personnel barged into their homes at midnight and assaulted them.
Even women were not spared, they said.
The same was brought to the notice of SC/ST Commission Chairman B Venkataiah by the farmers here on Saturday.
The Chairman assured the farmers that he would soon visit the villages where police excess took place and take action against the guilty officials.
