Hyderabad: The psycho-social counselling services launched by the Rachakonda Police earlier this month has helped 153 persons cope up with mental health issues during the lockdown in the last one week. The services, which were offered during the lockdown last year too, were re-launched by Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat with a team of 14 counsellors and clinical psychologists who have volunteered to help the public.
The team has been helping people cope with anxiety, stress, fear of uncertainty and Covid-19-related issues and there were a few psychiatric and relationship issues which needed long term intervention and were directed to experts accordingly. The helpline has been designed in a way that every call is attended.
Officials said, in just a week from launch date, the counselling service number received 153 calls. Of them, 42 were stress related, 30 were Covid-related mental health issues, 15 were depression related, 11 with several psychological problems, 6 with suicidal tendencies, 6 pertaining to marital issues and rest due to several other reasons.
“Fear of Covid has engulfed all age groups and the counsellors addressed these issues by equipping them with positive affirmation, a few tips and actionable strategies,” an official said. Those in need of the psycho-social counselling services can call at 040-48214800.
