Hyderabad: After a chunk of plaster of Machli Kaman, one of the four arches around the Gulzar Houz, fell recently, leading to apprehensions of public safety, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) asked the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authorities to conduct a detailed inspection of the four arches.
Charminar MLA, Mir Zulfeqar Ali, urged the authorities to immediately take up the inspection of all four arches – Charminar Kaman facing Charminar monument, Machli Kaman towards the north of Gulzar Houz, Kali Kaman or Kaman of Shambhoo Pershad in the east and the Kaman Sher-e-Batil on the west.
On October 7, a man suffered injuries after a plaster from the Machli Kaman fell during rains in the city. Soon after the local MLA and corporator concerned visited the spot and inspected.
“I have asked the officials concerned to take up repairs at the Machli Kaman on a priority basis. Also, I asked the department to conduct a detailed inspection of the four arches to prevent such incidents in future,” Zulfeqar Ali said, adding that the repair works are expected to begin soon after the monsoon ends.
The four arches were constructed around a year after the construction of the historic Charminar. Standing 75 metres tall, they were constructed equidistant with Gulzar Houz in the centre during the reign of Sultan Muhammad Quli. Each of the four arches was designed in the same style and served as a gateway to royal structures in the area.
