Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Madhapur Special Operations Team (SOT) busted a large-scale racket involving adulterated cooking oil and expired food products and arrested two persons.

Following information, the SOT team raided the premises operated by Sri Jasnath Traders in Indiramma Colony at Vattinagulapally. During the operation, officials seized 5,026 litres of adulterated cooking oil and 5,192 kg of expired wheat flour.

Police also seized oil and wheat filtering machines, packaging materials and a tempo trolley used for transporting the adulterated products. The total value of the seized items is estimated at around Rs 21.9 lakh. Police arrested Bhanwar Ram Jat (46) and his son Ashok Kumar (22), both natives of Rajasthan.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly procured expired and substandard cooking oils from various brands, mixed them with soybean oil and repackaged the mixture using fake brand labels.

The adulterated products were then supplied to local markets, misleading consumers and posing serious health risks. The suspects, along with seized material, were later handed over to the Gachibowli police for further action.
