Hyderabad: Maestro Chess Academy (Hyderabad) is in the news for all the right reasons!
A week after one of its trainees Dhruva Thota became an International Master, the Maestro Academy, headed by FIDE Instructor and Candidate Master Amithpal Singh, had the distinction of producing a few more young chess champions.
Anaya Sharma of Maestro Academy won the gold in the girls under-8 category in Malaysia with credible wins against top seed Aaranya in the second round, sixth seed Anvi Deepak Hinge in the fourth round and second seed Tyesha Byadwal in the fifth round.
“With these wins over the tournament’s strongest players, Anaya surged to a perfect 7/7, leading by one full point. Though she suffered a setback in Round 8 against a New Zealand player due to a miscalculation, she bounced back with remarkable composure,” a visibly delighted Amithpal informed Telangana Today. “Importantly, in the crucial ninth round, Anaya, a fourth standard student of Hyderabad Public School, capitalized on Malaysia’s Swareega’s early blunders to clinch the issue. Now she is targeting the GM title,” he said.
The other notable performer was Nidhish Shyamal (ELO 1998), who won a bronze in the boys under-10 category in the same Commonwealth Championship.
“This boy, a student of Edify World School (Attapur), is another future champion given his solid game, wonderful maturity and great passion for the sport. His work ethics too are terrific,” Amithpal said.
Meanwhile, back home, another Maestro Academy product, G Shivamshika, won the Telangana State women’s chess championship for the second consecutive year.
“Shivamshika (ELO 2022), a student of Zilla Parishad High School (Attapur), is known for her tactical sharpness, fighting spirit and highly competitive attitude,” the proud coach said.
“We believe that these impressive performances by the Maestro Academy players are proof of our commitment and passion in producing champions, and a lot of credit goes to the support staff which includes a top-tier coaching team of IMs, reputed players and experienced training staff at the Academy,” Amithpal said.
“Essentially, what I could not achieve as a player, I am trying to see that one of my trainees will go on to win the world championship one day,” he said.
