Mahabubabad: A young mountaineer from Bhukya Thanda in Mariped mandal of Mahabubabad district is seeking support from philanthropists to help him realise his dream of scaling all the highest peaks including Mount Everest as he hails from a poor family. This 17-year-old boy, Bhukya Yashwanth, has already proved his mettle by scaling Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak (5895 meters) in August this year besides reaching the highest point in the Trans-Himalaya mountain range in Ladakh in July. He is presently studying Intermediate second year in a private college in Hyderabad.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today,’ Yashwanth said he underwent training for 10 days at the Bhongir Rock Climbing School in Basic Mountaineering Course in 2019. “Mountaneering has been my passion since childhood, beginning with climbing hillocks. I used climb hillocks at my village and in the surrounding villages in our mandal,” he said, adding that his dream is to hoist the Indian tricolour on top of the mountains in all the continents of the globe.
Explaining his family background, he said: “My father Ramamurthy works as a contract employee with NPDCL and takes care of our family which includes my brother and mother Jyothi. I took the trip to Kilimanjaro with the help of donors. Since I am planning to summit the peak of Aconcagua, I appeal to philanthropists to come forward to help me in achieving my dream. I have managed to collect Rs two lakh of the Rs eight lakh required for the trip from several leaders, officers, traders and others,” he added.
Aconcagua is in the Andes mountain range in Argentina. It is the highest mountain in the Americas and highest in both the Southern and Western Hemispheres with a summit elevation of 6,961 metres. It lies 112 km northwest of the provincial capital, the city of Mendoza, about five km from San Juan Province.
Meanwhile, some tribal students of Osmania University in Hyderabad have felicitated Yashwanth Naik on Thursday for scaling Kilimanjaro with the help of some officials and promised to raise funds for him.
