Hyderabad: Property worth several lakh rupees was gutted down when a major fire broke out at Falaknuma Road on Monday. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The fire started at a sofa making unit located opposite the electricity office on Falaknuma road around 4.30 pm and soon spread to half a dozen shops located adjacent to the unit. On being alerted by the local people, a fire tender from the Chandrayangutta fire station rushed to the spot. Noticing the intensity of the fire, additional fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Thick smoke emanating from the mishap site created a scare in the people staying in the residential area within a radius of two kilometres. The firemen had to struggle hard to prevent the fire from spreading to the LPG cylinder godown located adjacent to the sofa making unit. A fire tender was parked inside the LPG cylinder godown to prevent the blaze from spreading towards the godown and firemen pumped gallons of water into the sofa making unit. A motorcycle parked outside the sofa-making unit caught fire and was reduced to a metal frame.
The TSRTC Farooqnagar Depot personnel panicked for a while after seeing the intensity of the fire. A dozen odd buses were parked in the bus depot when fire broke out in the adjacent premises.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, (Falaknuma) MA Javeed, and Inspectors from Kalapather, Bahadurpura and Falaknuma reached the spot to supervise the firefighting and crowd control. A total of five fire tenders from different fire stations brought the fire under control after nearly two and a half hours. Teams of the Disaster Response Force assisted the fire personnel in the firefighting operation.
The fire officials suspect that the fire might have started following a short circuit in the sofa making unit. However, the real cause of the fire is being ascertained.
