Warangal: Warangal Police Commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi has called on the police officers to make the Commissionerate free of drugs. Following directions from DGP Mahender Reddy, the CP held a special meeting with the police authorities at the auditorium of the National Institute of Technology(NIT), Warangal to discuss the drug menace and steps to be taken to curb the cultivation, transport and consumption of ganja under the police commissionerate limits.
He said that the Chief Minister was keen on eradicating the menace in the State and directed the Police Department to make all efforts to curb the consumption of ganja. “The police officials at each PS should collect information on persons involved in cannabis and gutka smuggling in the past as well as information on people who cultivated cannabis and their current status besides collecting information on those who consume it,” he said, adding that a robust informer system should be set up to track down the perpetrators of marijuana trafficking.
“We need to find a permanent solution to the menace rather than focusing on checking it from time to time,” he said. DCPs Venkalakshmi, Pushpa Reddy, ASP Vaibhav Gaikwad, AR Additional DCPs Bhim Rao, Sanjeev, ACPs, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Mahabubabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Nandyala Koti Reddy said that they would not hesitate to book cases under PD Act against people involved in the smuggling ganja and consumption. Speaking at a counselling session for ex-offenders on marijuana, Koti Reddy said the Chief Minister had given clear instructions to the police to deal with marijuana and drug peddlers with an iron hand. He urged people to inform the police about ganja smuggling assuring them that their details would be kept confidential. “If any farmer who receives Rythu Bandhu assistance and cultivates ganja, the assistance would be stopped besides booking them under the PD Act,” he warned.
