Hyderabad: The Bachupally police arrested a man for allegedly cheating around 137 unemployed youth by promising jobs in reputed multinational companies through a fake recommendation-based recruitment scheme.
The accused and his associates are suspected to have collected nearly Rs 50 lakh from the victims.
Police said the case was registered on February 14 following a complaint from Kasula Jagadeesh (34), a resident of Nizampet.
According to the complainant, three persons — Ajay Jakkula, Sravani Kondaji and Sadgun Sadhula had claimed they could arrange jobs in companies such as Cognizant, JPMC, Amazon, EPAM, Qualcomm and Wells Fargo.
Police said the suspects had convinced job seekers that they could secure placements through a recommendation appointment scheme and demanded payments ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 90,000 depending on the post.
Police said about Rs 47.20 lakh was transferred through different accounts, while the total number of victims identified so far stands at 137.
To make the fraud appear genuine, one of the suspi allegedly issued fake offer letters in the name of a company.
During the investigation, the Bachupally police examined victims and verified bank transactions linking the suspects to the fraud.
It is learnt that Ajay was taken into custody.
