Mancherial: The employees and administrative staff of the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) ended their protest that was launched on December 8 demanding the scrapping of cases booked against staffers. They took a decision to this effect after the company’s Human Resource Department (HRD) director B Venkateshwar Rao and Chief Vigilance Officer Bheem Sharma held consultations with members of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) and assured them of justice. The JAC was formed by various associations and unions of employees of the company.
In a press statement, the JAC said the employees called off their strike on Monday following assurance extended by Venkateshwar Rao and Bheem Sharma. “The HRD director, CVO and APTS Circle Inspector Ramana Murthy held consultations with members of the JAC. They gave clear assurance to ensure justice to us,” the statement read. It thanked the political parties and employees’ bodies that extended solidarity to their protest.
Some of the demands of the JAC included striking of the SC, ST Atrocities Prevention Act booked against the three staffers including an assistant engineer of the corporation, to provide protection to victims, to transfer them to another place and to take steps to prevent assaults on employees of NPDCL in the future and to protect lands of the corporation situated in Chennur town.
Two staffers and an assistant engineer belonging to power utility sustained injuries after being allegedly assaulted by councillors of Chennur municipality for obstructing them to lay foundation stone to erect sheds on December 6. Both the employees and councillors lodged complaints with police against each other. The rift snowballed into a controversy.
