Mancherial: Police solved the mystery behind the sensational murder of Kothapalli Village Revenue Assistant (VRA) Durgam Bapu by arresting a person within two days following the crime. The arrested person was Jambi Ravi Kumar, 21 year-old unemployed from Kothapalli village in Kannepalli mandal.
The special police teams led by Inspectors K Babu Rao and Jagadish, initially focused on two angles—previous enmity between the murdered man and Ravi Kumar and a dispute between Bapu and his cousin Lingaiah over his jo, as per the complaint given by Bapu’s widow Ammakka.
The police teams tracked the mobile phone of Ravi Kumar as he threatened to kill Bapu for misbehaving with his younger sister two years ago. They suspected his role when Ravi was found to be moving to different parts of the district and was not seen after the murder. Ravi was traced in Jankapur and taken into custody on Tuesday.
During interrogation, Ravi Kumar confessed to the murder. “He admitted that he had killed Bapu as the latter misbehaved with his sister. He waited for an opportunity for over a year to kill the VRA. When he learnt that Bapu would be alone in Tahsildar’s office, he decided to implement his plan.
Ravi Kumar carefully chose a spot where a CCTV camera was not functioning. He entered the office from the rear side on Sunday around 11 pm. Bapu was sleeping in the office and when he woke up to urinate around 3 am, he attacked Bapu and indiscriminately stabbed him leading to his instant death. He then threw the knife in an agricultural well and burnt the blood-stained clothes on the Kothapalli village outskirts.
Police said Ravi Kumar recently ordered the knife on Flipkart. A receipt of the order was found on his mobile phone. The police said that they would take the murder weapon from the well in a day or two and gather relevant pieces of evidence to establish involvement of Ravi in the murder.
