Maoist attack: Five DRG jawans killed in IED blast in Chhattisgarh
The incident occurred between Dhaulai and Pallinar at Kadenar area in Narayanpur district when the jawans were returning to Mandoda after conducting combing operations in the forests
An IED blast triggered by Maoists blew away a bus killing five DRG jawans in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh state on Tuesday.
Kothagudem: Five District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans were killed and 12 others were injured in a landmine blast allegedly triggered by Maoists in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh State on Tuesday.
The incident occurred between Dhaulai and Pallinar at Kadenar area in the district when the jawans were returning to Mandoda after conducting combing operations in the forests. Around 24 jawans were travelling in the bus at the time of the incident, Chhattisgarh DGP DM Awasthi told the media.
The impact of the improvised explosive device (IED) blast was such that the bus was blown away and fell into a ravine over 15 feet below, reducing it into mangled steel. The landmine was planted beneath the newly laid gravel road at the edge of a culvert and the blast left a massive crater on the road.
The deceased jawans were identified as Head Constable Jai Lal of Kasavahi, Karan Dehari, (driver) from Antagarh, Sevak Salam from Kanker, Pawan Mandavi from Bahigaon and Vijay Patel of Narayanpur.
Six jawans were airlifted from Narayanpur to Raipur for treatment and the condition of two was said to be critical. The incident, a major one in recent times, came in the backdrop of recent peace talks proposed with the government by the Maoists.
