Hyderabad: The family of Nikitha Godishala, who was found dead in Maryland, USA on December 31, 2025, said in an official statement on Thursday that the prime suspect is yet to be traced by authorities.
The family clarified that law enforcement agencies have clearly indicated no arrest has been made so far, contradicting reports circulating on social media. They also appealed to the media to report responsibly and respect the family’s privacy as they grieve.
Coordination is underway with the Indian Embassy in the U.S. and Ministry of External Affairs for further legal and procedural support. The family said future updates will be shared only through official statements and verified channels, it said.
Nikitha was found dead on December 31, 2025, at a residence in Columbia, Maryland, where the suspect, Arjun Sharma, was staying. She had suffered multiple stab injuries, and investigators believe the incident occurred on the evening of the same day.
Police informed the family that Sharma filed a missing complaint on January 1 and left the U.S. for India the following day.
During the period Nikitha was reported missing, suspicious financial activity was noticed in her bank account. The family also stated that the suspect had contacted her acquaintances seeking money, citing personal difficulties.
