Bengaluru: A massive security cover has been put in place across Bengaluru ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled protest in the city. More than 6,000 police personnel have been deployed, and the city has been divided into 15 security sectors, each under the command of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
Freedom Park has been converted into a temporary control room to monitor security operations. Heavy police presence is visible at major junctions, including Maharani College Junction, Sheshadri Road, Majestic, Upparpet, Cottonpet, Kempegowda Bus Stand, and Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station.
As part of the arrangements, 2,500 officers are spread across sectors, Garuda Force and D-SWAT teams are on alert, emergency services, including ambulances, doctors, fire engines, quick response teams, and 15 Vajra riot control vehicles, are deployed across key locations, BBMP and Health Department personnel are assisting with on-ground logistics.
The protest route is under tight surveillance, with police stationed at strategic points such as Maharani Junction, the Election Commission Office, Cauvery Guest House, BMC Hostel, Oni Anjaneya Temple, Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Palace Road Junction, Y. Ramachandra Road, Kurubara Sangha Circle, Sagar Junction, Gandhinagar, and Poatiss Junction.
Speaking to the media at Freedom Park, Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara said:
“All necessary arrangements have been made in view of the protest. The final decision on how many participants will be allowed to reach the Election Commission office lies with the police.”
He also clarified that no march or padayatra will be permitted due to a court-imposed ban.
“Irregularities are happening across the country, even here in Karnataka, especially in Mahadevapura,” he added, hinting at the focus of the protest.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to submit documents to the Election Commission and release more details on the alleged irregularities on Friday.
