Karimnagar: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao on Monday said playgrounds would be developed in different places under the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar’s limits for the convenience of sportspersons.
Stating that a separate section for sports would be set up in MCK, he said the play grounds’ development would be taken up through this section. The MCK was also taking steps to conduct sports competitions, he said.
The Mayor was speaking after laying the foundation stone for filling gravel in the football court being developed in the Regional Sports School near Lower Manair Dam here on Tuesday.
Sunil Rao said to encourage sports, the corporation had taken up Ambedkdar stadium development works as part of the Smart City programme. The stadium would be developed as per international standards at a cost of Rs 90 crore.
Besides developing inside ground, surrounding building as well as seating arrangements would also be modernized. Adequate lighting arrangements would be made to ensure sport events to be conducted day and night.
Mayor advised sports persons to enhance their standards and win medals in national and international level events by utilizing the facilities being provided by the state government and MCK.
Talking about 400 meter synthetic track being laid in regional sports school, he said that former MP and TS planning board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar sanctioned synthetic track during his tenure in 2017, 2018. Synthetic track was taken up with Rs 7 crore. He on behalf of district sportspersons and sports school students thanked Vinod Kumar for sanctioning synthetic track which has been confined to metropolitan cities so far.
He asked the sport school students to brining laureates to school by developing their talent by utilizing the facility
