Hyderabad: In an utter shock for people who attended Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s programme in Uppal on Sunday, the microphone got disconnected even as BRS MLA Bandari Lakshma Reddy attempted to address his constituents.
The incident stirred up a political storm, with BRS accusing the ruling Congress of attempting to muzzle the Opposition’s voice.
After the Chief Minister laid the foundations for various development works in Uppal constituency, local MLA Lakshma Reddy was invited to speak as per protocol. However, he had just begun speaking when the microphone stopped functioning and the audience could not hear him, forcing him to cut short his address and leave the stage.
Ironically, the sound system worked without interruption before and after his speech, with no Congress leader facing any such issue.
Calling the incident as deeply distressing and unfortunate, Lakshma Reddy took to social media and said an attempt was made to prevent an elected representative’s voice from reaching the people during an official government event. He raised questions over whether the disruption was intentional.
“In a democracy, every public representative has the right to present their views to the people. Attempting to disrupt a speech because of political differences goes against the spirit of democracy. Such petty politics have no place in programmes meant for public welfare and development,” he said.
