Hyderabad: If reports are to be believed then Microsoft is looking at extending the Office 365 subscription for its customers in India for free.

This new offer is being given in view of the new auto debit rules by RBI that came into effect from October 1. As per the new rule, auto-debit for streaming services and any other transactions will not happen automatically and people will have to do that manually.

Due to this new rule by RBI, many people were having trouble renewing their subscriptions like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube Premium, and even Microsoft Office 365. Keeping this in mind, Microsoft has decided to extend the Office 365 subscription for its customers in India for free. Already subscribed customers will have their subscription valid till April 1, 2022 – even if the subscription has expired.

A user tweeted that the tech giant has mailed its customers informing them about the subscription extension.

Microsoft India is extending the Microsoft 365 subscription until April 1, 2022, for FREE to everyone. Thanks, @MicrosoftIndia!

The email from Microsoft says, “The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently added new requirements for processing recurring transactions through the RBI E-mandate, intended to enhance the safety and security of these transactions. We at Microsoft are updating our payment systems to enable recurring payments in accordance with these requirements. In the meantime, to help avoid disruption to your subscription, we have extended your subscription of Microsoft 365 until at least April 1st, 2022 at no additional charge so you don’t have to worry about making recurring payments during this time. Thank you for subscribing to Microsoft 365.”

The Microsoft 365 is available for Rs 6,199 per year for 2-6 people and it includes 6TB of cloud storage and premium safety features in mobile apps. Meanwhile, the single user fee comes to Rs 4,899 per year which provides 1TB of storage.
