Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar extended his greetings on Christmas Eve and said that the festival is celebrated across the world on a grand scale.
Participating in the Christmas celebrations held in Wesley Church, Christian colony here on Saturday, he extended his greetings to the community people. Speaking on the occasion, Kamalakar said that people belonging to all castes and religions celebrate Christmas. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has introduced a number of welfare schemes to uplift all castes and religions,” he said, adding that the State government is giving equal priority to all religions.
Speaking about the development, he said that new companies are coming forward to invest in Karimnagar wherein law and order are under control. “People from all sections of the society should lead friendly lives for the growth of future generations,” he said and appealed to God to bless the people.
Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, Corporators Wala Ramana Rao, Thota Ramulu, Bandari Venu, and others participated in the celebrations.
Meanwhile, from beautifully decked up churches, to lit up roads and bakeries filled with plum cakes, Hyderabad celebrated the birth of Lord Jesus Christ in a grandiose manner.
Although most events leading to Christmas were scaled down for the safety and well-being of church going families over Omicron worries, congregations were seen at major churches in the city, such as St Mary’s Basilica, St George church and St Joseph’s Cathedral. Several people were seen going for the special prayers, all dressed up for the occasion, along with their family and friends. The church authorities ensured that all the Covid norms were followed by those who attended the service and made special arrangements for the purpose. People were seen wearing masks and maintaining physical distance while being seated at the church.
At a few churches, people got together to sing carols followed by Holy Mass and cake-cutting ceremony. After the mass, people greeted each other and clicked pictures together.
Refraining from going to churches, many others celebrated a quiet festival at home, by hosting elaborate Christmas Eve dinners for friends and extended family members.
For the entire day, the city markets buzzed with shoppers out for last minute festive shopping. Several shops, too, were seen all decked up for the festival with a decorated Christmas tree greeting the customers right at the entrance.
