Hyderabad: It was a minor boy’s attempt to steal a cricket bat that ended in the gruesome killing of a 10-year-old girl in her house at Kukatpally.
The Kukatpally police on Saturday apprehended the juvenile, aged around 15 years and a Class 10 student of a local school, who was staying near the house of the victim at Sangeet Nagar in Kukatpally.
“The child in conflict with law played cricket along with the victim’s brother and wanted to get the bat at any cost, so he decided to steal it,” said K Suresh Kumar, DCP, Balanagar.
On Monday, around 8.45 am, the boy conducted a recce of the victim’s house and a couple of hours later entered the residence while the girl was watching television. He sneaked into the kitchen, took the cricket bat and was leaving when the girl noticed him and raised an alarm. “The boy pounced on the girl, and after throwing her on the bed, stabbed her repeatedly with a knife he was carrying, leading to her death,” said the official.
A case was registered after the murder came to light a few hours later when the victim’s father returned home from work in the afternoon.
Police said the boy had listed the things to be done on a piece of paper and had planned to steal the bat. “He did not attend school regularly and keenly watched crime serials on television,” said Suresh Kumar.
The boy was produced before the juvenile court and sent to the boys’ observation home.
