Karimnagar: Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar was peeved with the staff at Gangadhara BC Gurukulam School (Boys) for neglecting their duties and not providing facilities to the students.

The MLA on Wednesday made a surprise visit to Gurukulam school and inspected the classrooms, kitchen and other areas. On going through the attendance register, he found that Principal Sherisha and three teachers were absent without prior permission and expressed his displeasure at the shirking of the staff. Ravishankar said steps would be taken to take action against the four by bringing the issue to the notice of higher officials.

On being told that mutton was served on Wednesdays, The MLA enquired the mess workers about the quantity of mutton served to each student. He was again upset with the evasive replies of the staff. Later, he interacted with students in their classrooms. When asked as to why two to three sections were clubbed, the students informed the MLA that teachers were absent.

Besides giving his mobile phone number to students, he asked the students to contact him if they had any issues in the school. He instructed the teachers to write his mobile phone number on blackboards of all classrooms.

When students said they were facing problems since they were forced to sit on the ground due to lack of benches, he assured them that the benches would be arranged. Responding to the local people’s complaint that the principal’s husband was dictating terms in the school, the MLA promised to take action.

Ravishankar said that in order to provide corporate-level education to poor and middle-class students, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao started Gurukulam schools across the state.

However, the ground reality was different and students were suffering a lot due to the negligence of teachers. Not only concentrating on getting salaries, but teachers should also teach lessons to students. Right from the regional coordinator to RCO to the principal, everybody was behaving irresponsibly.

The MLA said he would make surprise visits to the school frequently to check the performance of teachers.
