Hyderabad: The second successful virtual mock parliament session was held at Delhi Public School, Nadergul. Students from classes VII to X participated and acted as members of the Parliament. They discussed and debated various issues of national and international significance.
They exhibited how members of parliament discuss issues, circulate and pass or reject Bills by casting a ballot and other functional aspects of the Houses of Parliament.
The purpose of conducting this session was to replicate the structure and working procedures adopted in the Indian Parliament. In addition to this, the aim of the session was also to strengthen and reinforce the roots of democracy and to inculcate the value of discipline in students, the school said adding that the session facilitated students to understand the workings of democracy.
Around 35 students participated and did a role play in a typical setting of the Lok Sabha.
The session began with the Oath-taking by new members followed by the introduction of new members by the Prime Minister, leading onto the Question Hour, presentation of reports of the Parliamentary committee, calling attention motion, breach of privilege, introduction, consideration and passing of Bills.
During the Question Hour, many urgent issues of public importance were raised and discussed like the recent and continual hike in petrol prices, new farm laws, education during covid crisis, uniform education bill to name a few.
The students’ mock parliament presented both ruling and opposition viewpoints. They rendered their critical capacity of inquiring and reflecting the Parliament of India. The session ended with students acquiring an extensive understanding of politics and the functioning of the parliamentary houses.
